Some Replacement Theology Errors

Lesson VIII

December 12, 2004

I)                Introduction

Ø  2 Chronicles 7: 14             My people…their land

Ø  Romans 9:1-5                    OT promises made to Israel

Ø  Ephesians 2:11-12             Gentile nations are strangers to the promises

Ø  Romans 15:8                     By His First Coming, Jesus confirmed that he did not fulfill the promises to Israel

Ø  Romans 15:9                     Gentiles rest on God’s mercy

II)             Review last week’s lesson-differences between Israel and The Church

ISRAEL

Promised               earthly blessings

Place                      in and of the world

Practice                 Sabbath keeping & circumcision

Responsibility       to be salt & light

Approach to God  "God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob-Israel

THE CHURCH

Promised               heavenly blessings

Place                      in, not of the world

Practice                 no such instruction

Responsibility       ambassadors from Heaven

                              (2 Corinthians 5:20)

Approach to God  "God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 1:3)

III)          Some of the errors of replacement theology

1)      The false doctrine of the ten lost tribes

a)      Many believe the tribes were lost in 722-712 BC

b)      The tribes were scattered, not lost

·         James 1:1               not lost, but scattered

·         Acts 26:6-7           “our 12 tribes," present tense when Paul spoke

·         Luke 2:36              Tribe of Asher, one of the lost Tribes

·         Revelation 7:4-8    John wrote...not lost

2)      “Jews” only of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin; “Israel” from the other ten tribes

a)      In the New Testament the words “Jew” and “Israel” are interchangeable

(i)     Paul

·         Romans 9:3-4        an Israelite

·         Philippians 3:5       a Jew

·         Romans 11:1         these facts are repeated in one verse

(ii)   Jesus

·         Matthew 2:2          King of the Jews

·         John 1:49               King of Israel

(iii) Nicodemus

·         John 3:1                 Ruler of the Jews

·         John 3:10               Master in Israel

(iv) Acts

·         21:27                     Jews

·         21:28                     Men of Israel

b)      We learn from the Old Testament that the word “Jew” was a Gentile name for an Israelite, and are one and the same when used in the New Testament

c)      Amillennialism            “Christians are Jews”

3)      Replacement Theology has increased anti-Semitism and Jew hate

a)      Hatred of the Jews is not new

·         Genesis 27:41                    beginning

·         Esther 3:6,10                     Haman - enemy

·         Psalm 83:2-5                     their history

·         Ezekiel 35:1-5                   perpetual

·         Luke 1: 71                         “hate us”

b)      Hate-will increase just before the Lord returns

·         Zechariah 13:8

·         Zechariah 14:2

·         Matthew 24: 9

c)      Hatred by the Church is the worst

IV)          Conclusion

If replacement theology is correct, then why do the Jewish people and the Nation of Israel, after 2000 years still exist as a unique Nation?

Should they not, like other Nations, have ceased to exist?  They being the most hated Nation on earth should not have survived.

How and why have they been preserved?
