Witnesses of Christ’s Resurrection

II

April 23, 2006

I  Introduction

1 Corinthians 15:20-23  Christ is the first fruits of resurrection

Acts 26:28 the first to rise from the dead

Colossians 1:18   the firstborn from the dead

Romans 6:9  death hath no more dominion over him

1 Timothy 6:15  he only hath immortality

It seems to me ,in the light of these Scriptures, all others who have been restored to life , have been resuscitated, not resurrected as was Christ.

II  Jonah is the great sign of the Resurrection

            Matthew 12:38-40  as Jonah was…

So shall the Son of Man be..

Jonah came out alive from the fishes belly, Christ came out alive from the tomb

To reject the story of Jonah is to reject the resurrection of Christ

III  Thomas became a witness of the resurrection

John 20:24-25   Thomas was not present the first time Jesus appeared

John 20:26-28   8 days later, Thomas saw and then believed.

Thomas is a type of Jews who will believe when they see Christ at His coming

1 Timothy 1:16  Paul says he is a pattern of those who will believe hereafter

Acts 9:1-6  Paul saw and believed, in this a pattern

Zechariah 12:10  they shall look on Him whom they have pierced

IV  Seven Disciples saw the resurrected Christ

John 21:1,2,14  the third time Jesus showed Himself

V  Eleven Apostles also saw Christ

Matthew 28: 16,17  even then, some doubted

VI  Five Hundred saw Him at once  (note the word ‘after”)

1 Corinthians 15:6  how many witnesses do you need ?

VII  James saw him  (note the word ‘after’)

1 Corinthians 15:7  he was the brother of John

VIII  All the Apostles saw him

            1 Corinthians 15:7  this for 40 days  (Acts 1:3)

IX  Stephen saw him

Acts 9:56  he saw Jesus standing to receive his spirit

X.. Paul was the last to see him

1 Corinthians 15:8  others may have had visions of Jesus, Paul saw him

XI  We have not seen Him, but we will

1 Peter 1:8  whom having not seen we love

1 John 3:2  we shall see him as he is

John 20:29  blessed are they that have not seen, and yet believed
