Lesson IX

Interpretation- III

May 31, 2009

We have been sharing our personal experience as to how and why we interpret the Bible as we do.  In this lesson we continue.

VI  I have learned that much Bible history is actually fulfilled Bible Prophecy

Genesis 15:13-16  these are verses of prophecy.

  1. “Thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs  ( Egypt)  There is a land that is theirs!
  2. “They shall afflict them 400 years
  3. “ and also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge”
  4. “ afterward shall they come out with great substance”
  5. “ And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age”
  6. “And in the fourth generation they shall come hither again”
  7. “for the iniquity of the Ammonites is not yet full”  cf  Psalm 75:7-8

The book of Genesis and Exodus are books of history, but in reality they are the record of fulfilled prophecy.

Daniel 9:25  …the street shall be built again, and the wall, in troublous times”

There are three prophecies in that one line of Scripture.

Nehemiah, a book of history, is actually the literal fulfillment of these prophecies

Isaiah 40:3 a prophecy of the coming of John the Baptist. How do we know?

Matthew 3:1-3 that prophecy becomes New Testament history

Micah 5:2  a prophecy of the birthplace of Jesus

Mathew 2:1  that prophecy become history in the New Testament

For over 4000 years God has been interpreting prophecy by literally fulfilling it!

Matthew 1:22    that it might be fulfilled

Matthew 2:15    that is might be fulfilled

Matthew 2:17    then was fulfilled

Matthew 2:23    that it might be fulfilled
