Feast of Atonement

I  Leviticus 23:27  The Day of Atonement              

 

            Hebrews 9:7  with the tribes of the children of Israel camped around the tabernacle under condemnation, the High Priest, with the blood of the sacrifice on the brazen altar, went beyond the veil  to the mercy seat over the Ark.

If the sacrifice was accepted, when the High Priest returned, the people knew that their sins were atoned for (covered) for another year.

            Hebrews 10:4  it was impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sin

            Hebrews 7:19  the law made nothing perfect

 

II. Christ, the true High Priest, entered the temple made without hands

 

            Hebrews 8:1  we have such an High Priest

            Hebrews 9:24  He entered the true tabernacle in Heaven

            Hebrews 9:11-12  He entered because He had obtained eternal redemption

            Hebrews 7:25   we are saved to the uttermost by our High Priest going into Heaven

 

III  We want to show you from the Scriptures

            What had been done on the day of atonement year after year in Israel, was but a picture of what is ahead.  When the feast of atonement is fulfilled, it will be fulfilled by the Coming back from the Heavenly tabernacle of the true High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Timothy 1:16  Paul states that he is a pattern (not to those who now believe) but to those which should hereafter believe.

John 20:29,1 Peter1:8   Today, we are saved by faith in a Saviour not seen by human eyes  

 

Paul was not saved as we are saved, he was saved by ‘seeing Christ’ Acts 9:1-6,  1 Corinthians.9:1

In this he is a pattern of the way the Nation of Israel will yet be saved.

1 Corinthians 15:8  “Last of all He was seen of me as of one born out of due time. Premature baby!

John 20:24-25  Thomas becomes a type of Israel who will not believe until they see.

2 Corinthians 3:16   when Israel’s heart turns to the Lord, the vail will be taken away

 

Today, is not the day of National salvation.  Today is the day of individual salvation.  The only Nation promised National salvation is the Nation of Israel.

 

IV.. Look at More Scriptures

 

Romans 11:25-26     All Israel shall be saved as it is written..” What is written?

            “There shall come out of Zion” (Hebrews 12:22-24 the Heavenly City)

             “The Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob”

Romans 11:26   “For this is my covenant with them”

Romans 11:27 “When I shall take away their sins”

 

What else do we find ‘written’?

 

Ezekiel 37:21-22  God will gather, save and cleanse Israel

Ezekiel 39:28  when He is finished gathering them, none will be outside of the land of Israel

Zechariah 13:8-9  in great tribulation, two thirds of the Nation will die

Daniel 12:1  only those written in the book will be delivered

Isaiah 4:1-3  in that day  the escaped, left, remaining, living

Isaiah 66:8 ,12  in one day, a nation born at once ?

 

Zechariah 12:9-14  pour on the families that remain, the spirit of grace

Matthew 24:13  he that endureth to the end shall be saved

Ezekiel 11:19  “And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you..”

Jeremiah 31: 31-34 new covenant with them…all shall know me..”

Hebrews 8:7-13  the new covenant with Israel-

Hebrews 10:16-17  new covenant with them

 

Conclude

We repeat:  We are saved because our High Priest has gone into Heaven and ever lives to make intercession for us.  The Nation of Israel, like the days of atonement in the past, will be saved by their High Priest Coming Out of Heaven.  Then the day of Atonement will then have its complete fulfillment.

Yom Kippur , the day of atonement, is Israel’s holiest day of the year.
