God’s Great Plan for Israel

The Feast of Tabernacles

Lesson IX

April 6, 2008

Introduction

It is well for us to remember that these feasts of the Lord were given by the Lord to be celebrated by Israel.  They were not given to the Gentile Nations.  Only the Nation of Israel was instructed to observe these seven ‘religious festivals’ annually.

Romans 9:4 to Israel pertains the covenants, the law, and the promises.  Covenants were not give to Gentiles Romans 15:9   Gentiles glorify God for his mercy.

I  Leviticus 23:34  The Feast of Tabernacles

It has been celebrated by Israel as a happy holiday.

Deuteronomy 16:13-14  it was a time of rejoicing and great joy.

Deuteronomy 16:15  it was to be kept in “a place the Lord shall choose”

Deuteronomy 12:1-5,11,14, 18, 21,26  What was the place?

1 Kings 11:36  we are told it is Jerusalem. Also  2 Chronicles 6:6

Like the other feasts tabernacles pointed forward to something far greater.  We are not left to speculate.  To fulfill this feast, Jesus Christ must return to Jerusalem

II  Zachariah 14:1-19 is the answer.

Zechariah 14:1-5  these verses describe some of the events connected with the Second Coming of Christ.

Notice verse 5  the prophecy is explained to be as literal as the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah.  See Amos 1:1

Zechariah 14:6-8  the events will be caused by the Lord’s return- a climate change!

Ezekiel 47:1-12 gives further information about the ‘living waters’

Zechariah 14:9  the Lord shall be King over all the earth

            See also Jeremiah 23:6

Matthew 6:10  it was for this Kingdom, Israel was taught to pray

Acts 1:6  it was this Kingdom the Apostles were looking for

Zechariah 14:16-19  It will be during that time in history the Feast of Tabernacles will be fulfilled.

Zechariah 14:20-21  At that time Jerusalem will truly be the Holy City.  Jerusalem being the place God hath chosen to put His name there.

Ezekiel 48:35  the city will be re-named  “The Lord is there”  Jehovah-Shammah

            Joel 3:17, 21  Zechariah 2:10-13
