Third- Deity of Christ

Introduction

There are five fundamental doctrines, (we believe) that are necessary for one to claim to be an ‘Evangelical Christian’. They are:   Inspiration of the Scriptures, Virgin Birth of Christ, Deity of Christ, Vicarious Death, and Bodily Resurrection of Christ.

 

I  The Pre-existence of Christ is a repeated theme in Scripture

            John 1:15, 30  He was before me

            John  3:13,31   He came down from Heaven

            John 6:33,41,50,51,58  He said He came down from Heaven

            John 8:58  Before  Abraham was I Am

            John 17:3 …glory   I had with thee before the world began

 

II  Colossians 1:15-19  State Tremendous Facts about Jesus Christ

            Colossians 1:15  Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God

            Colossians 1:15  Jesus Christ is the firstborn of all creation

            Colossians 1:16  Jesus Christ is the creator of all creation

            Colossians 1:16  Jesus Christ is the purpose of all creation

            Colossians 1:17  Jesus Christ is the first cause of all creation

            Colossians 1:17  Jesus Christ is the preserver of all creation

            Colossians 1:18  Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, the new creation

            Colossians 1:18  Jesus Christ is the firstborn from the dead

            Colossians 1:18  Jesus Christ is to have preeminence in all things

            Colossians 1:19  In Jesus Christ is the fullness of God bodily (chap 2:9)

 

III  Colossians 1:15  He is the Image of the Invisible God

a.       God is invisible

John 4:24  God is, not was, a Spirit

Luke 24:39  A spirit hath not flesh and bones

John 1:18  No man hath seen God at any time

Romans 1:20  The Invisible God is revealed by Creation

b.      Image means Reflection, Manifestation, Revealer of God

1 Peter 1:21-  It is by Him we believe in God

John 14:6   no man cometh unto the Father but by Jesus Christ

1 Timothy 3:16  Jesus, is God manifest in the flesh

Matthew 1:23  Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us

Hebrews 1:3   Jesus is the express image of God.

            c   Jesus was called God

                  John 10:33-36  He said He was God

                 Romans 9:5  God blessed forever  John 20:28  My Lord and my God
