The Fundamentals of

The Evangelical Christian Faith

5th Fundamental- The Resurrection of Christ

Lesson VI

October 14. 2007

I   The Bible doctrine of the bodily resurrection of Christ is really the starting point of Christianity

Acts 2: 24,30,31, 32   God raised Him up… Peter’s sermon is founded on this doctrine

1 Corinthians 15:1-4  without the resurrection there is no gospel to declare

1 Corinthians 15:19   without the resurrection there is no hope of a future

Romans 10:9,10    without the resurrection there is no personal salvation

II  Peter claims the reality of the resurrection because it was impossible for death to hold Christ.

Acts 2:24  death could not hold him

Acts 2:27   did not see corruption.  The reality of a bodily resurrection is here: for if his body did not see corruption that demands a bodily resurrection

III  Peter claims that he is a witness of the resurrection

Acts 2:32   we all are witnesses

Acts 1:21-24  an apostle had to have witnessed the resurrection

1 Peter 5:1   Peter, an elder and a witness

1 John 1:1-4  John, the life was manifested and we have seen it

We must not miss this fact that the Apostles were chosen to be special witnessed of the resurrection of Christ.

IV  Jesus proved Himself to have a Resurrected body

Mark 16:9  He appeared  first to Mary

John 20:17   He told her not to touch me  . You can’t touch spirits

Matthew 28: 9  they held Him by the feet- certainly implies a body

John 20:20  He showed Himself after he was risen from the dead

John 20:24-29   Jesus said “my hands”  “my side”

Luke 24:33-39  my hands, my feet, handle me… it had to be a body

V   Peter says, the Resurrection fulfilled Old Testament Prophecy

Acts 2:25-31  the prophecy is in Psalm 16:8-11

VI   Conclude

            1 Corinthians 15:14-20

How can anyone claim to be and Evangelical Christian and not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the tomb?
