Introduction:

There are ten chapters in I Kings about the reign of Solomon

There are nine chapters in 2 Chronicles about the reign of Solomon

I Solomon – a Type

The story of David typifies Christ in His suffering or First Advent

The story of Solomon typifies Christ in all His glory, or Second Advent

1 1 Kings 4:7 He chooses 12 officers to be over his kingdom

Matthew 19:27-28 the Apostles will sit on twelve thrones

Ezekiel 48 for this reason the Land must be divided for the twelve

2 1 Kings 4:24-26, 1 Kings 5:4 Solomon’s reign, days of peace –own vine etc

Micah 4:4 during Christ’s reign

Zechariah 3:10 the same words.

3 1 Kings 4:4:29-34 Solomon was known to all people and all nations

Psalm 72: 1, 7-11 all kings, all nations

4 1 Kings 6:14 Solomon builds the Temple

Zechariah 6:12-13 Messiah builds the Temple

Here is a double type:

1 Kings 5:17 Great stones in the foundation

1 Corinthians 3:11 Christ is the great foundation of the Church

1 Kings 6:7 the stones were made ready and would each fit in place

1 Peter 2:5 ye as lively stones

Ephesians 2:19-21 the building framed together

1 Corinthians 3:17 ye are the temple (also 1 Corinthians 6:19)

1 Chronicles 5:12 120 trumpets cf Acts 1:15 120 in upper room at Pentecost

5 1 Kings 8:6-11 The glory of God filled the temple

Ezekiel 43:1-7 so it shall when Christ comes

6 1 Kings 8:22-53 Solomon’s great prayer for Israel ( 2 Chronicles 7:1)

Psalm 124:1-2 The Lord has been and is on Israel’s side.

7 1 Kings 8:54-61 Solomon then blesses the people of Israel

Notice verse 60 “all people of the earth know

Proverbs 10:22 blessing of the Lord adds no sorrow

Psalm 29:10-11 He will bless His people
