Solomon – the Carnal Man

I  Look back over Solomon’s Reign as King of Israel

 

            2 Samuel 12:24  The Lord loved him

            1 Kings 3:3  Solomon loved the Lord

            1 Kings 3:5  The Lord appeared to him

            1 Kings 4:29  God gave him wisdom, understanding and largeness of heart

            1 Kings 8:11  Solomon witnessed the glory of God fill the Temple

            1 Kings 8:14  Solomon blessed the people of Israel

            1 Kings 8:54  Solomon knew how to pray

            1 Kings 8:63  Solomon gave great offerings to the Lord

            1 Kings 9:2-3  The Lord appeared to Solomon a second time

            1 Kings 10:1,23,24  Solomon became very famous

1 Kings 9:10  These things continued for twenty years.  Surely such a man could never fail.

II  Solomon’s Backslidings and Blunders

 

            1 Kings 11:1  but” begins a new phase of his life.

                        He loved Strange, that is Gentile women, all enemies of Israel

            1 Kings 11:2  Solomon had been warned

                        cf Joshua 23:12  cf 2 Corinthians 6:14

            1 Kings 11:3  700 wives, 300 concubines- political alliances

                        Ecclesiastes 2:17.18  he hated life

            1 Kings 11:4  when old, his wives turned away his heart

            1 Kings 11:5  names the gods he served

            1 Kings 11:6-7  did evil in the sight of the Lord

            1 Kings 11:9-10  the Lord was angry because of the idolatry

            1 Kings 11:11  the Lord would rend the kingdom from his family

            1 Kings 11:14, 25  the Lord stirred up adversaries against Solomon.
