Rehoboam I – A Natural Man

Review- Text  1 Corinthians 2:14- 3:1  three kinds of people

            Saul , began well but he soon became a carnal man

            David  ended his life a very spiritual man

            Solomon ended his life a very carnal man

            Rehoboam was a natural man.

 

I  Rehoboam was the son of the great man, Solomon

 

            1 Kings 11:43  -Solomon died, Rehoboam became king

            Ecclesiastes 2:18-19  will he be wise or a fool?

                        Deuteronomy 8:18  God gives abilities

                        1 Corinthians 4:7  what did you not receive?

                        Ecclesiastes 6:2  God gives riches, wealth honor

 

II  Rehoboam was the son of an Ammonite woman

 

            1 Kings 11:1  Solomon married a woman of the Ammonites

2 Chronicles 12:13  Rehoboam was 41 when he began to reign.  His mother’s name was Narmah , and Ammonite

Genesis 19:38  the daughter of Lot was mother of Benammi, who  was father of the Ammonites

Jude 7,8,  backslidden Lot was grandfather of the Ammonites

Deuteronomy 2:19  Israel was not to meddle with the Ammonites

Deuteronomy 23:3,4  Ammonites barred from the Camp of Israel: reason given

1 Samuel 11:1,2 cf Amos 1:13-15  they became cruel people

1 Kings 11:7  Molech was the idol god of Ammon

Nehemiah 2:10,19  the Ammonites opposed Nehemiah when he was building the

Wall of Jerusalem.

 

III.. Rehoboam began his reign facing a problem created by his father

 

            2 Chronicles 10:1-4  the people had to pay too many taxes

            2 Chronicles 10:5-7  Rehoboam had no respect for the ‘old men’s advise

                        Therefore he had not regard for history

2 Chronicles 10:8-14  He took the counsel of the young men with whom he had been brought up, (his generation) with disastrous results.
