Review

1 Corinthians 2:14  natural people - all who are not saved

1 Corinthians 2:15 spiritual people – saved walking with God

1 Corinthians 3:1  carnal people – saved but living as natural men

II  Background to introduce King Saul

Acts 13: 17-20  God gave Israel “Judges” for 450 years

Judges 21:25  summarized the moral conditions near the end of that period

1 Samuel 7:15-17  Samuel was the last of the Judges

Acts 3:24  Samuel was the first of a line of O.T. Prophets

Matthew 11:13  John the Baptist was the last of these special prophets

Hebrews 1:1-2  God had been speaking by these prophets and in the last of those

days , He Spoke by His Son

III  During the days of Samuel, the Priesthood had failed.

1 Samuel 1:12-15  Eli the priest, thought Hannah was drunk!

1 Samuel 2:12-17  Eli’s sons knew not the Lord, and because of their conduct the

people abhorred the offerings of the Lord

1 Samuel 2:22-24  describes their conduct

1 Samuel 2:29  they were making merchandise of God’s people

1 Samuel 3:13  they were vile and unrestrained by their father

1 Samuel 8:1-8  Eli had made his sons judges, so the people demanded a King

IV  Their First King was Saul

The following verses teach me that Saul was a saved man

1 Samuel 10:6  he was turned into another man

1 Samuel 10:9  God gave him another heart

1 Samuel 28: 19  Samuel said “today thou shalt be with me”  Was Samuel saved?

Then, Saul must have been saved because when he died he went to be with Samuel

So in looking at Saul’s life we shall have a revelation of what it means to be a carnal man.
