How God Sees People

King Saul - the Carnal Man

Lesson III

November 19, 2006

I  The Children of Israel demanded that they have a King

            1 Samuel 8:1-5  make us a King

1 Samuel 8:22  the Lord said to Samuel, make them a king

            1)  The outward reason for their request

1 Samuel 2:17  the sins of Eli’s sons

1 Samuel 8:1-3  the sins of Samuel’s sons

            2)  The real reason for their request

1 Samuel 8:5  to be like the Nations

1 Samuel 8:19-20  to be like all the Nations

            3)  God had made them to be different

Exodus 11:7  God put a difference

Leviticus 20:24  He had separated them from other peoples

Numbers 23:9  they were not reckoned among the Nations

2 Samuel 7:23-24  No other Nation like Israel

            1 Kings 8:53   God’s inheritance

            4)  All this is typical of the Church of Jesus Christ

John 15:18-19  ye are not of the world

John 17:16  not of the world

Romans 12:2  be not conformed to the world

2 Corinthians 6:14-18   come out and be separate

II  Desiring a King they were rejecting God and His will for them

1 Samuel 8:7  they were not rejecting Samuel, they were rejecting God.  Do we realize ,to reject God’s Word is to reject God?

III  Being out of the Will of God they chose Saul to be their King

1 Samuel 12:13  Behold the King ye have chosen

1 Samuel 16:7  they looked on the outside, God looks at the heart

IV  Saul’s beginning was good

            1 Samuel 9:1-2  a choice young man

1 Samuel 9:3-20  God using what men consider to be ordinary affairs of this life to accomplish his purpose.  Kish sent Saul to look for donkeys but that event was God sending Saul to meet Samuel  see  verses 15,16
