King Saul –III

Lesson IV

November 26, 2006

I  Saul’s Beginning

            1 Samuel 9:2  a choice young man

1 Samuel 9:20-21  Saul was not seeking position

I Samuel 15:17  he was little in his own eyes

            Here is a lesson:

Romans 12:3  don’t think more highly of yourself than you ought

            Philippians 2:3  esteem others better

Galatians 6:3  you may be deceiving yourself

II  Saul’s Backslidings

1 Samuel 13:1  after he had reigned for two years- first battle as a King

1 Samuel 13:7  fear had overtaken Saul and his army

1 Samuel 13:8-10  Samuel had instructed Saul to wait for him

1 Samuel 13:11-13  Saul does foolishly

Another lesson:

Saul became impatient because of his fear, and did not wait for Samuel

1 Samuel 9:27  Samuel said to Saul “stand still”

1 Samuel 10:8  Samuel said “tarry seven days”

1 Samuel 13:8-13  Saul could not wait!

Isaiah 40:31  they that wait upon the Lord…

Illustration  Exodus 24:12-14  tarry (wait) until we come again

Exodus 32: 1  because Moses delayed they made the golden calf!

God is never in a hurry but often we are and that is when we are in danger of doing something foolish.

III  Saul Begins to Live in Disobedience

1 Samuel 14:29  my father hath troubled the land

1 Samuel 15:1-3  God revealed His will to Saul –smite Amalek utterly

1 Samuel 15:9  Saul spared the best

1 Samuel 15:13-15  Saul claimed obedience

1 Samuel 15:20-26  Saul said I obeyed but the people
