Lesson XI

January 13, 2008

Text-  Romans 11:33

Introduction

We have pointed out that Joseph’s life was marked by suffering and then glory

We come to that part of Joseph’s life when he no longer is a man of sorrows, but a man of glory, joy and singing.  Would he not have had joy when he came out of prison?

In all this he typifies Christ after He was risen from the dead.

Matthew 28:9  “All hail” could be translated “O Joy”

Habakkuk 3:19   Who is the Chief singer?  Jude 24

I    Genesis 40:23  The Butler forgot Joseph, but God had  not.  In one day, Joseph would

be raised from prison to the position of Prime Minister of Egypt, with power and

       glory.

After His resurrection, of Jesus , we read:

Matthew 28:18  all power is given unto me

Acts 2:36  of the resurrected Christ  , “ God hath made Him, both Lord and Christ

“The Highest place that Heaven affords is His by Sovereign right..”

II    Genesis 41:1  Pharaoh’s dream was of God

Genesis 41:9  The Butler remembers , at the right time

Genesis 41:14  because of that dream, Joseph is called out of the prison

Genesis 41 25   God hath showed Pharaoh what He is about to do

Genesis 41:32   God will  bring it to pass.  Nothing is more sure than the fulfillment

       of true prophecy.

III   Genesis 41:39-43  Joseph is given a position of leadership and glory

Everyone bows the knee before him, commanded to do so

Philippians 2:10   Before Jesus, every knee shall bow

IV   Genesis 41:45   Joseph is given a new name

Philippians 2:9  Jesus is a name given above every name

V     Genesis 41:45  While Joseph is rejected by his brethren, he is given a Gentile bride

Acts 15:14  Rejected by Israel, Jesus, from the Gentiles, is taking out a people for His

Name-.  We now know this is talking about the New Testament Church

VI    Genesis 41   the Great famine comes to Egypt.

       Genesis 41:54  in all lands

Genesis 41:56   over all  the face of the earth

Matthew 24:21-22 is this not a type of the coming world-wide tribulation?

That world-wide famine is only a shadow of what is ahead for this world.

VII   Genesis 41:55  during the famine, all in need had to go to Joseph, where was bread

It was useless to go to anyone else.  Cf  Acts 4:12

Revelation 7:9, 14-16   in  the tribulation a number of Gentiles will turn to the Lord

VIII  Genesis 42:1-3 it was the famine that brought Joseph’s brethren to Joseph

The main purpose of the story is to show what it meant for the children of Israel

Jeremiah 30:7  the  tribulation will be the time of Jacob’s trouble

One day we will learn that as long as Israel is in trouble, the world is in trouble.

XI     Genesis 42: 7,9,30  Joseph treats his brethren roughly to make them feel their sin

        and their need.

        Genesis 42:21-23   we are guilty

Genesis 42:28        what is this that God hath done unto us?

Genesis 43:14        God Almighty give you mercy

Genesis 43: 26,28  Joseph’s brethren  bow the knee, not knowing who Joseph is

Genesis 44:16        God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants

God’s future dealings with the people of Israel is revealed in the Prophets

Isaiah 10:20-22    a remnant will return

Isaiah 26:16          in trouble they poured out their prayer

        Jeremiah 30:10     Jacob shall return

        Ezekiel 22:21-22   gather and refine

        Hosea 5:14,15       I will tear—‘till they acknowledge their offence…

        Hosea 14:2            receive us graciously

Zechariah 13:8- 9  He will bring a third part through the fire of the tribulation

X. Genesis 45:4  after all this, Joseph revealed  himself to his brothers.  “I am your brother”

So, when Jesus returns , He will reveal Himself to his brethren, Israel. As He did to Paul

on the road to Damascus.

Revelation 1:7     they shall look upon Him whom they have pierced.  ( Jesus  was treated  worse than was Joseph)

Zechariah 12:10  they shall look  and mourn

Zechariah 13:6    one will say “What are these wounds?

XI  Genesis 46:1-3   Jacob and his family , all move to Egypt.

Genesis 47:10    Jacob, the Jew, blesses Pharaoh , the Gentile.  Cf Hebrews 7:7

One day, Israel will fulfill her place and become a blessing to the whole world.

Genesis 47:11   The children of Israel are given the best land in Egypt.

Do we not have   a shadow of the millennium here when Israel will be the head and

not the tail of the Nations?
