Joseph Tested in Egypt

We have considered:

1. Joseph suffering because of circumstances at home
2. Joseph suffering the loss of his mother
3. Joseph suffering because of the sins of his brothers
4. Joseph suffering the hate and evil of his brothers
5. Joseph suffering, being cast into a pit in the wilderness
6. Joseph suffering because of his brother’s envy
7. Joseph suffering, being sold as a slave by his brothers

8 Now, he suffers temptation, tests and trials in the land of Egypt

In Scripture, Egypt is always a type of the world. Joseph was in Egypt but he never became like Egypt.

John 15:19 ye are not of the world

John 16:33 we are promised tribulation in the world

Galatians 4:4 Christ gave himself to deliver us from the present evil in the world

9 Joseph suffers because of the actions and lies of an Egyptian woman

Proverbs 6:26 …the adulteress will hunt for the precious life

Genesis 39:7-19 was read to you, the verses spell-out the details. In verse 10 notice it was “day by day”

10 Joseph suffered because he was forgotten, and left in prison two full years

Genesis 40:23, 41:1 forgat him, two full years

11 Joseph sufferings were the road to Joseph’s throne

Genesis 41:14, out of the dungeon

Genesis 41 41-42 lord over all the land of Egypt
