Lesson-Four

July 4, 2010

Introduction

Seven times Paul introduces himself as the Apostle of Jesus Christ

Once as the prisoner of Jesus Christ, and twice as the servant of Christ

The Text Romans 1:1

Paul a servant of Jesus Christ.  Are you?

            Called to be an apostle,

Separated unto the gospel of God (good news from Heaven)

I  Servant -  the bond-slave of Jesus Christ

This is an Old Testament word

            Exodus 21:5-6

            Deuteronomy 15:12-17

II  Four facts are found in these verses

(1)    A slave recognized that he had a master

(2)    A bond-slave loved his master

(3)    Because of love, not law, he willingly served his master

(4)    A bond-slave was know by the mark in his ear

III  A bond-slave recognized he had a master. Do we?

Ephesians 6:9  your master is in Heaven

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 not your own, you belong to Jesus

Matthew 6:24  you cannot serve two masters.  You cannot serve God and money

1 Timothy 6:9-10  those who do, fall

Galatians 1:10  to please men is to displease Christ

IV  A bond-slave loved his master.  So should we

Perhaps we need to re-examine the doctrine of love

2 John 6  “and this is love that we walk after His commandments

His greatest delight is to do his master’s will

Ephesians 5:2-4  walk in love…but fornication

Romans 13:10  love worketh no ill to his neighbor

Philippians 1:16-17  not sincerely, but the other of love

V.. A bond-slave served willingly, he wanted to do so. Do we?

Deuteronomy 28:47-48  the Lord is concerned as to how we serve

Luke 10:38-40  Here, Martha served, but how?

John 12:2  again, Martha served, but what a difference, no complain

Malachi 1:10-13 do we serve like this ?

John 21:20-22  what a lesson. We are not to be concerned about what another does, we are to “follow “ Him

Colossians 3:23-25  we do right when our service is unto the Lord,

We do wrong when our service is unto men

2 Corinthians 9:7  God loveth a cheerful giver (and worker)

VI  The bond-slave had a marked ear. Have we?

“Christianity has  a basic obligation to hear God, religion has a basic obligation to see gods”

Mark 4:24  take heed what you hear

Luke 8:18   take heed how you hear

Luke 11:28  blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it

Romans 10:17  faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God

Rev. 2:1,7,11 etc  he that hath an ear let him hear

Hebrews5:11 some are dull of hearing

John 10:27 my sheep hear my voice

VII  Conclusion

James 1:19  let everyone be quick to hear
