Paul-separated unto the Gospel

Lesson VI

Romans 1:1

Date July 18, 2010

Introduction, we have considered:

Paul as a servant, or bond-slave, of Jesus Christ

Paul as an apostle of Jesus Christ, and now,

Paul, separated unto the Gospel of God

“Paul had a whole gospel for the whole man and the whole Church in the whole world”

I   Paul is the Revealer and Declarer of the gospel

1 Corinthians 9:17  the gospel has been committed unto him

The word “dispensation” in this text means “stewardship” or “commissioned”

1 Timothy 1:11 “according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust

There is a ministry of the Church in Peter, James and John, but Paul gives the fullness of truth for the Church

The Church is a new body of people that demands a new body of truth.

II  Paul had received direct Revelation from the Resurrected Christ

            Ephesians 3:1-11 read carefully

Therefore, it is Biblically correct to say that this gospel came from Heaven

The gospel did not originate with men.

The gospel did not originate with Paul

The gospel originated in the heart of God

            God is the author.

1 John 4:19  we love Him because He first loved us”

Galatians 1:11-20  the Scripture reading is Paul’s testimony

III  Paul was made a minister of the mystery of the Church

(a mystery being something that can only be known by Divine Revelation)

Colossians 1:24-27  the facts are stated

Colossians 3:3  …your life is hid with Christ in God” Is that not a safe place?

If you take the Pauline Epistles out of the New Testament you cannot find much about the Church

The foundation of Paul’s gospel is found in the first eight chapters of Romans

The first chapters – the world is under condemnation. Chapters 4-5 God has provided a way of justification.

Chapters 6-7 God’s way of sanctification and chapter eight , for the one God has justified, He will bring glorification.

IV   We look at some of the major doctrines revealed to and by Paul

            The gospel

Romans 1:3-4  the gospel concerns Jesus Christ.

verse 3 “  ..made of the seed of David “  His humanity

verse 4 “   declared to be the Son of God”  His Deity

verse 4 “  by the resurrection from the dead

Any other Jesus is not the Saviour of our souls

            The Rapture

1 Corinthians 15:51-58  Paul revealed the mystery of the Rapture

1 Thessalonians 4:15  more about the Rapture

            The State of Israel

Romans 11:25  Paul reveals the mystery of the present state and condition of Israel.  Romans chapters 9-11  deal fully with this subject

The Lord’s Table

1 Corinthians 11:23 The Lord, not the other apostles, instructed Paul about the communion table

V   Paul’s Gospel is filled with the doctrine of the Grace of God, like the carcase of the lion that Samson had slain, was filled with honey (Judges 14:5-9)

  Some examples:

The word “grace” is found in Romans at least 16 times- here are two

Romans 6:14  we are not under law but under grace

Romans 11:6  if it is grace , then it is no more of works. Grace and works do not go together

1 Corinthians 1:4  I thank my God ..for the grace of God given unto you..

1 Corinthians 15:10  by the grace of God I am what I am

2 Corinthians 8:9 for ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ

2 Corinthians 12:9…my grace is sufficient for thee

Galatians 2:21  I do not frustrate the grace of God

Galatians 5:4   ye are fallen from grace

Ephesians 2:8  by grace are ye saved

Ephesians 6:24  grace be to all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ

Philippians 1:7  ye all are partakers of my grace

Colossians 3: 16  singing with grace

2 Thessalonians 2:16   good hope through grace

1 Timothy 1:14  and the grace of our Lord Jesus was exceeding abundant

2 Timothy 2:1  be strong in grace

Titus 2: 12-13  grace teaches how to live and how to look

Hebrews 4:16  throne of grace

Hebrews 13:9  good thing… heart be established with grace

Thanks be to God for the message of God’s grace received by us from His Messenger, Paul.
