March 7, 2010

I  The Major message

The Book of Hosea -  the love of God

The Book of Joel -      the judgments of God

II  The Key phrase in Joel –“The Day of the Lord”

            Joel 1:15

Joel 2:1-2

Joel 2:11

Joel 2:31

Joel 3:14

III   There are two aspects to the Day of the Lord

1.      Joel 3:14  The great and terrible day, to come, in judgment on this earth

Matthew 24:37  as the days of Noah

Matthew 24:39  the wicked were all taken away from the earth

            So Shall it be:

Proverbs 2:22  the wicked shall be cut off from the earth

                        Matthew 13:30  tares are taken

Matthew 13:39  the reapers are the angels

                        Matthew 13:41  gathered out of

                        Matthew 13:49  the wicked

Psalm 37:10  the wicked

2.      Psalm 37:11 introduces the other side of the Day of the Lord

Joel 3:16-21 He who judges the world, will bless Israel

Isaiah 9:6    wonderful

Today may rightly be called “Man’s Day” but the “Lord’s Day” is coming

IV   In the Old Test. every major judgment was considered “a day of the Lord”

Genesis 7:11,12-  the flood was a day of the Lord

Genesis 19:24-25  the destruction of Sodom, a day of the Lord

Joel 1:15  the coming Babylonian Captivity a day of the Lord near at hand

2 Peter 2:6 all past judgments were to be seen as ensamples of a greater judgment

to come.  ( are the earthquakes not but signs of greater to come?  Chile was 500

times stronger than the earthquake of Haiti)

A.D.70 was a day of the Lord. Remember all wars are judgments of God!

V   The New Testament teaches that there is a future Day of the Lord

            1 Thessalonians 5:2  shall come

2 Peter 3:10   elements, will melt, it does not say ‘matter”

This day will come when the Lord returns to earth, first to judge and then to bless.
