The Prophets
Lesson XII
Joel Outlined - Part Two
March 21, 2010
Introduction
The Book of Joel
outlines prophecy that has to do with Israel
I Joel 1:-2:11 Prophecy of the Babylonian Captivity,
and the troubled land
Prophecies
that have now been literally fulfilled.
That
the Prophet saw beyond Babylon to greater judgment, is clear.
The captivity and all, are types of greater judgments to come to the same
Nation
Matthew 24:6-8 Jesus taught that the same kind of judgments will yet come to
Israel and the world.
II Joel 2:12-27 Prophecy of Israel
being restored to their land
Joel 2:25
I will restore
Jeremiah 29:10-14 A
like promise
Joel 2:12-17 when
Israel repents the Lord will turn away the evil
Cf Nehemiah 1:3-4 and Daniel 9:1-4
Joel 2:18 The Lord will again be
jealous for His land and His people
Joel 2:20 He
would remove the northern Army (of Babylon)
If the captivity was a
type, it follows that the restoration is also a type of a much
greater restoration.
III Joel 2:28-29 Another prophetic
event
Joel 2: 28
“Afterward” After their ruin
and after their return. God would pour
out His Spirit upon them
Acts 2:16 this is that spoken by Joel. He
did not say, this is the fulfillment
Pentecost was not a final day, it is in this context, a specimen day, a type of what
is to follow in Israel.
Zechariah
12:10 I will pour out the spirit of grace
Ezekiel
36:24-27 I will put my Spirit within
Jeremiah
31:34 They shall all know me
God pouring out His Spirit on
others is another matter. Joel’s focus is on Israel, your sons, your daughters.
