Lesson IX

The Jews, Past, Present, Future

February 28, 2010

I  The story of Gomer is an illustration of the Nation of Israel

            1. She was chosen to be Hosea’s wife

            2. She was unfaithful and left Hosea for other men

            3. She was restored to be his wife and the past fully forgiven and forgotten

4 Did Hosea ‘cast away’ Gomer?  No

            5. Has God ‘cast away Israel’?   Romans 11:1-2  the answer

II  I gave six lectures-(two on each subject): Jews: past, present, future,20 years ago

Here is the outline used:

Their past        Hosea 11:1  loved  (cf 1 Kings 10:9)

 Romans 9     selected

From Abraham to the time of Christ’s First Coming, is their past history

Their present   Hosea 11:8-9  backslidden but loved still

Romans 10     rejected  cf  Romans 10:3-4

From the crucifixion to this present hour

Their future    Hosea 14:1-4  received and loved freely

Romans 11 the Nation resurrected. (restored)

From the time of the Second Coming and for eternity

III  Look more closely at Romans chapter eleven

1. Romans 11:1-4  there was an election of grace in the past

                        Cf  Deuteronomy 7:6-8

Hath God cast away His people, Israel?

Romans 11:1  Paul says, no, I am a proof of that

Romans 11:2-4  He had not cast them away in Elijah’s day either

Cf 1 Kings 19:14, 18  He had 7000! Elijah did not know one of them!

2. Romans 11:5-6  there is an election of grace at this present time

Now consider Romans 11:7 carefully

There are two kinds of Jews at this present time:

The election  who are not blinded, like Paul and Peter etc

The rest.. who are blinded.  Verses 8-11 are all about them cf Romans 11:28

3  Romans 11:12, 15  prophecy- of the election of grace in the future

IV  Hosea 14: 1  O Israel, return unto they God.  God’s invitation to them

Hosea 14:2 turn to the Lord

Say unto Him ‘take away all (our) iniquity

Receive us graciously  the election of grace

Hosea 14:3  No one else, no other, can save us

Hosea 14:4  The Lord replies:  I will heal. I will love freely (No cause in them)
